St. Mary's students get a taste of Famine life at the Ulster American Folk Park

28th Mar 2019

The Primary 7 pupils got the opportunity to visit the Ulster American Folk Park for an educational trip linked to our topic of the Famine and our class novels. We have read the three novels of the Famine series: Under the Hawthorn Tree, Wildflower Girl and Fields of Home. The class were totally engrossed by these books and thoroughly enjoyed the links made to the book during the Folk Park visit. They got to act out a scene from the soup kitchen, fell into the hands of an untrustworthy American fellow by the ship and got to find out about some herbal remedies from Mary-Kate. Did you know that eating an onion raw could keep away the flu and colds?
