Pat Cullen MP Visits St mary's
We were pleased to recently welcome Pat Cullen MP to our school. The children gave wonderful performances, including a poem in Irish from P1, the First Fermanagh's version of Killeagh from P4 and a polka from the traditional group. Pat was greeted by our School Council members and enjoyed a conversation around the democratic practices used by the council. She toured the school and we shared how desperately we need our School Enhancement Programme to commence.
Pat acknowledged that we have tried to make the best use of our space and poor building, such as creatively adapting sensory areas, gathering leaks in a water butt as an environmental project and the fact that in the interests of the children, staff have chosen to vacate and transform the old staffroom to create a group-room for nurture and SEN support. She has written to the Education Minister Paul Givan, seeking clarity on when the long-awaited work will finally commence, stating, ‘These improvements are urgently needed for both pupils and staff, and there can be no further delay. The staff and children have created a wonderful school community, but they deserve facilities that match their hard work and talent’.
