Domestic and Sexual Abuse Helpline

3rd Nov 2021

Northern Ireland’s 24hr Domestic and Sexual Abuse Helpline is a free and confidential service that offers help and support to male and female victims and survivors, worried friends and family members and professionals.

The Helpline is staffed 24 hours a day by fully trained support workers and volunteers who are available to offer expert support and confidential, non-judgemental information. All calls are completely confidential. The team also work alongside a range of community partners who provide specialist support services to those who have or are experiencing violence and abuse.

Domestic violence and sexual abuse can happen to anyone, male or female, young or old and of any sexual orientation. When someone is afraid, vulnerable, and facing abuse within their own home, it is important that they can get to a safe place as quickly as possible. Individuals may have to leave their home and travel to emergency accommodation. Where private transport is not available, victims will now be able to arrange, through the Helpline, for free travel on Translink services for this purpose.

The Helpline, operated by specialist sexual trauma charity Nexus, is free to call on 0808 802 1414 and is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The Helpline can be reached three ways: by telephone, by email and a webchat service available via the website where there is also lots of useful information  www.dsahelpline.org
